Position Overview

The Director of Natural is responsible for managing all aspects of sales and merchandising for the natural foods and products department across grocery stores and affiliated locations. This role requires a deep understanding of natural foods and products, market trends, and customer preferences. The position works collaboratively with senior leadership to develop and execute strategies that ensure operational excellence, quality, and service standards are upheld.



Essential Job Duties

  • Sales Strategy: Develop and execute plans to achieve sales goals and grow market share within the natural department.
  • Merchandising Strategy: Oversee the creation and execution of merchandising strategies that adapt to customer needs and align with the company’s vision.
  • Product Assortment: Manage product selections with regular updates to ensure they reflect evolving customer preferences and market trends.
  • Pricing: Execute competitive pricing strategies and promotions to drive sales and maintain market competitiveness.
  • Supplier Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure product quality, reliable delivery, and competitive pricing.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement controls to ensure all products meet required standards for freshness, safety, and appearance.
  • Inventory Management: Ensure optimal inventory levels to reduce waste and maximize freshness while maintaining availability.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor and analyze customer preferences, sales performance, and market trends to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to health, safety, and regulatory standards related to food safety and workplace practices.
  • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams and store management to effectively execute initiatives and achieve collective goals.
  • Cultural Alignment: Uphold and embody the organization’s mission, values, and principles in all aspects of leadership.


Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong knowledge and passion for natural foods and products.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a team to achieve collective objectives.
  • Skilled in managing multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to develop long-term strategies and effectively communicate plans.
  • Expertise in fostering relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Education and Experience

  • 3–5 years of proven experience in a leadership role within the natural foods or food retail industry.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is required.


Work Environment & Demands

  • Frequent travel to various store locations and participation in training or research initiatives is required.
  • Flexible work schedule, including availability on weekends and holidays, to support business objectives.
  • Comfortable working in office settings as well as in-store environments as required by projects.


Mental and Physical Requirements

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret sales reports and data insights for strategic planning.
  • Quick adaptability to shifting trends in the natural foods industry and fast problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to focus on detailed or repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting of merchandise weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Comfortable presenting information to diverse groups, including employees, managers, and stakeholders.
